About

Although the term “we” is used throughout this site, the Strathmore Woodworks is a small one-man operation. I hold a degree in electrical and computer engineering from Clarkson University, worked as a brewmaster in a microbrewery, and currently work for a local product certification agency. What does that have to do with woodworking? Not much.

The genesis of the Strathmore Woodworks was buying a 110 year-old home in the historic Strathmore neighborhood in Syracuse NY. Our goal was to restore and update the home while maintaining the original character and retaining as much of the original materials as possible. Over the course of the (ongoing) restoration, a few tools in a dimly lit basement eventually grew in to a well equipped wood shop, equipped with both new and refurbished hand tools and power equipment.

Between home projects, I started making small items for birthdays and holidays, which eventually led to constructing full-sized furniture. The natural progression of all of this was to start selling items that I was also making for friends and family…welcome to the Strathmore Woodworks.
